Ex-show jumper Serena Kullich had a strong start to her new eventing career at Horseheath
Two of the BE100 winners at Horseheath Horse Trials on Saturday, Nicola Hughes and Serena Kullich, were celebrating not just a win but a win at their first try at this level
The BE100 Open D winner Serena Kullich is a recent convert to eventing and has only been riding her winning horse In The Darco for a few weeks before taking out the BE100 Open Section D here at Horseheath.
Despite just starting her eventing career, Serena has a strong background in show jumping; in 2016 she was selected for the England Under 16 show jumping team and won a silver medal for her country then finished the year on a high, coming sixth in the in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship class at the 2016 Horse of the Year Show on her Connemara stallion Kilcurry Dawn.
This year however, with the retirement of her top pony, Serena decided to make the move to bigger horses and eventing and she looks like being a force to be reckoned with in the future. Not only did In The Darco win the BE100 Open class but Serena’s other horse Cooley River also came fourth in the class
Obviously the show jumping phase holds few fears for Serena and she loves the cross country but the dressage is a new experience for her. Despite the fact that she has only done a handful of tests in her life, she and In The Darco started with a very good dressage score of 27.5 and they added nothing to it
We caught up with Serena after her win and found out more about how her day had gone
