Julia Otto is the Event Director of Luhmühlen whose main concern is that Germany's only four-star event ensures top-class conditions for riders, horses and spectators.

Julia looks back on an eventful Luhmühlen year saying "We're extremely happy that our title sponsor DHL Paket, as well as our main sponsors Meßmer, Charles Owen and Lotto are keeping up their great support so that we can rely on strong sponsoring partners in 2014."

The new showground offers tremendous improvements but it also called for many changes and adjustments concerning audience and trade-stand management. The bank along the main arena has been adjusted yet again to make room for another tent.

With regard to the sport Julia also plans ahead. "Obviously every cross-country course is unique due to the natural surroundings but it is rewarding to see that each year we're able to lure the top-class riders and their horses to Luhmühlen and I think this is also due to the hard work of our course designer, Captain Mark Phillips.

After this year's cross-country day we received a lot of flak - some constructive criticism but also some unreasonable blame. We all take responsibility for the level of difficulty. Therefore we have analysed this year's test. Captain Mark Phillips is one of the best course designers in the world and we're glad to have such a capable partner. He will stay Luhmühlen's course designer for another three years", states Julia.

"We have also analysed the results of the CIC3* and have come to the conclusion that its course had to adjust and readjust to different entries each year. In 2012 it was meant to prepare riders for the London Olympics. In 2013, due to the Derby Dynamic Cup and U25, the standard was completely different and the technical questions were too difficult for some of the entered riders and their horses. We have therefore decided to make the three-star course a little easier and friendlier and keep it that way in the future to give younger or inexperienced competitors the chance to compete in Luhmühlen. We're also extremely happy that the German Championships will be held in Luhmühlen yet again as part of the CIC***."
