Interview with Bettina Hoy

Bettina Hoy was back in Australia recently to present clinics at various locations and we were delighted to have the opportunity to interview her in Melbourne.

Bettina needs little introduction as one of the sport’s top competitors with a long and successful eventing career as well as a reputation as a first class dressage rider. A team Olympic bronze medallist for Germany in Los Angeles at the age of only 21, Bettina ‘won’ double gold in Athens in 2004 only to lose the medals in a dramatic court of appeal due to a mistake in the showjumping. The following year however she bounced back to win her first Four Star event at Luhmuhlen riding Ringwood Cockatoo, and as a combination they went on to win team bronze at the Blenheim European Championships in 2005, team gold at the Aachen World Equestrian Games in 2006, individual bronze at the 2007 European Championships and the Four Star in Pau in 2008.

More recently Bettina has been successful with her ‘tricky’ Trakehner TS Lanfranco. In this interview she chats with Debbie Higgs about her horses, her plans for 2013, including a move to the UK following her separation from Australian rider Andrew Hoy and some interesting projects for the future

We thank Bettina for her time and being absolutely charming to chat with and we’ll have some training tips from Bettina’s clinics coming soon
