Chanel Campbell and Astek Guardsman
Chanel Campbell is only person we’ve ever met on the eventing circuit that has won her horse in a competition. And this is not any old horse but a very attractive and talented youngster, Astek Guardsman, who was crowned the NZ National Young Horse Eventing Champion at the 2015 Taupo 3DE
Chanel told us how it was ‘quite bizarre but really cool’ when she won the now six year old, Astek Guardsman (by Gym Bello x Voltaire II mare Sienna SL) in the Horse & Pony magazine and Astek stud "Horse Of A Lifetime" competition in 2012.
Since getting Astek Guardsman as a three year old, Chanel has done most of the work herself, with the help of good coaches, to bring on the good natured, leggy horse
Chanel and Astek Guardsman were competing in the CCI1* at Puhinui and we caught up with them after the dressage phase when they were lying in 10th place. During the cross country at their first long format 1* event, Chanel opted to retire on course and save the six year old for another day
