Being an 'owner' for the weekend

   Penelope Sach and Sage Star

We met Penelope Sach at Mudgee one day event where she was celebrating, with friends, after the performance of her horse Sage Star in the Harbour ISP EvA80 class. “I’m not even the rider this weekend but it’s been lovely to see my horse Sage Star out their competing with a professional rider on board.”

A fall a few weeks earlier had left Penelope with a broken wrist but she was delighted when Keira Byrnes agreed to ride her horse at Mudgee. “I wanted to keep Sage in work and have known Keira for three or four years because Sage goes to her yard to spell from time to time. So Keira, who happened to be at the clinic, took Sage back to her place and we agreed that she would keep her in work and then we thought it would be a good idea for her to come here this weekend.”

Sage Star put up a wonderful performance in her class going clear both show jumping and cross country with her only ‘fault’ being collecting a few time penalites for going too fast cross country. “She’s a really sweet horse and I just let her bowl along,” said Keira. “She gave me a lovely ride and at least we know she will be able to cope easily with the speed when she moves up the grades.”

“It’s been a wonderful weekend,” said Penelope adding, “now I just have to make sure I get Sage back to ride because I think Keira would quite like to hang onto her!”
