Megan Jones and Kirby Park Impress were second in the CIC3* at the 2016 Australian International 3 Day Event

Beijing Olympic medallist Megan Jones has once again taken the South Australian Eventing Rider of the Year title and with it the Anna Savage Memorial Trophy.

Megan’s 10 year old chestnut mare Kirby Park Impress also won the South Australian Eventing Horse of the Year at EA South Australia awards night held yesterday.

Megan has a strong hold on the famous trophy, having first won it in 2000 she has since claimed the trophy and title nine times, including six years running from 2011 – 2016. The award for the South Australian Eventing Rider of the Year began in 1985 when it was first won by Scott Keach, now one of Australia’s top show jumpers; the now USA-based Scott went on to win it in 1987, 1990 and 1992.

Other winners include Olympian and Australian International 3 Day Event Director Gill Rolton, Atlanta Olympic medallist Wendy Schaeffer (another prolific winner with nine awards to her name), Samantha Stitchel, Tara Trebilcock and of course Anna Savage.

Anna tragically died as the result of a cross country fall in May 1997 and the trophy is in recognition of and a memory of Anna’s contribution to eventing in SA.

The Anna Savage Foundation also awards the Anna Savage Medal each year at the Australian International 3 Day Event to the rider deemed to be Australia’s ‘Best and Fairest’ eventing rider, judged on the three set criteria of competitive excellence, horsemanship and sportsmanship at the 3* and 4* events at Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Shane Rose is the prolific winner of this Award, having won an impressive six times in 1998, 1999, 2005, 2012, 2015 and 2016

Megan was also one of our winners in a slightly different Aus3DE Awards last November – you can check those out here
