Currently in 12th place on the FEI World Rankings, 26 year old Andrew Cooper is Australia’s highest ranked eventing rider and good results at the coming Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event in South Australia could see him move back into the top 10
The Victorian based rider has four horses entered for the big event in Adelaide (although the two 2* horses still need to qualify, hopefully at Albury International this weekend) with Hunters Hill his only ride in the CCI4*. Last year Andrew finished fourth in the CCI4* on board Tasman Park Ovation and third in the CIC3* on Lagoes Choice as well as being awarded the Anna Savage Medal for “Best and Fairest Eventing Rider” for 2017
The 10 year old brown thoroughbred Hunters Hill will be competing in his first CCI4* and Andrew is hoping that the long format competition will be an advantage for this quirky character who won the CIC3* at Wandin earlier in the year and finished fifth in the CCI3* at Sydney International
“Ever since I sat on him, he’s always been differently wired than most - I think it’s a very talented horse but he is a very disappointing horse at the same time!”
In the CIC3* Andrew will be competing Madeline Wilson’s Oaks Onyx, a nine year old warmblood that has finished third and fourth at his first 3* starts this year and has not incurred a jumping fault in his last 10 international starts
We caught up with Andrew at Tooradin Horse Trials for a chat about his horses heading to Adelaide
