CrossCountry App and Sydney International Eventing have teamed up for the upcoming Sydney International Three Day Event which runs from 27-29 April 2012. Cross County App will be used to create an interactive, intelligent map for iPhone and iPad of the new 3* course currently being designed by renowned English Course Designer Mike Etherington-Smith.
As the course is walked, CrossCountry App creates a map with jumps overlaid on a Google satellite image, measures the course with GPS tracking and automatically calculates minute markers relative to the optimum time. Users can add photos, videos, comments and striding for each jump. Riders can quickly browse the course before they ride to remind themselves how to tackle each jump. It is highly intuitive and easy to use.
The App also significantly reduces the cost and timescale of creating high quality course maps which until now have been the domain of high profile events such as the Badminton Horse Trials. With this new partnership, the Sydney International Three Day Event moves into a new technological era and is thrilled to be able to offer an enhanced user experience to riders and spectators. An online version of the 3* smart map will be available at www.sydneyeventing.org for viewing when the course upgrade is completed.
As part of the affiliation officials, sponsors and media will receive free copies of the CrossCountry App for iPhone or iPad. They will be able to view the recorded course with annotations from the designer and add their own notes and photos. It will be a valuable communications tool before and during the high profile event.
The fully interactive Sydney International 3* course will also be available as a free download to CrossCountry App users anywhere in the world.
Sydney International Eventing President Glenn Wallace is excited about the app sending the new Sydney course global. “This revolutionary Australian technology will make our new Three Star course designed by Mike Etherington-Smith accessible to Eventing enthusiasts all over the world."
CrossCountry App is being used by riders of all levels including Olympic Gold Medallist Stuart Tinney and Olympic Silver Medallist Shane Rose, both of whom will be riding at the April competition, the final selection event for the London Olympics. The App was developed by a Sydney based family business with a strong background in Eventing and put through some rigorous testing before it was released in September 2011. Riders and officials are impressed with the accuracy after comparing it with a measuring wheel and seeing how exact the track is over the Google Map showing permanent jumps.
CrossCountry App can map any course, anywhere in the world, even out of mobile phone or internet range. It is used in Australia, the USA, UK, Italy, Canada, Holland, Norway, Germany, Sweden, France, Denmark, New Zealand, Ireland, Hong Kong, Mexico and South Africa.
CrossCountry for iPhone and iPad can be downloaded from the Appstore.
